fiat without avail. They also say that the bill was hold over from the 1st September, 1921, until the 3rd Augist, 1922, in deference to strenuous opposition. It would take too long to explain all the causes which led to delay in the original action and in the passing of the Ordinance, but the delay was partly due to the action of the petitioners themselves. Fiats have recently been granted

in all the actions.

It is now proposed to move for the dismisse 1 of all the actions under section 3 of the Indemnity Ordinance, unless of course the petitioners ask for the

matter to stand over until an answer has been received to

the petition. In connection with the motion to dismiss it

will be made clear that in the view of the legal advisers

of the Government there is a perfectly good defence to the actions quite apart from the Ordinance.
